Alternative.me is a software-alternatives discovery platform built for people replacing an app, service, or website rather than simply browsing a launch feed. The homepage lets visitors search by product name and moves through mobile apps, business software, web apps, desktop software, product guides, cryptocurrency pages, and Discord resources. Individual software pages can combine a description, supported platforms, vendor links, alternatives, community votes, reviews, pricing, features, screenshots, and article provenance. On August 4, 2026, the live homepage reported 12,846 compared software items and 27,379 registered users.

Submitting a new software entry starts with the official How-To: Submit a Software guide at https://alternative.me/how-to/submit-software/. The guide says submissions are generally open to everyone, but it also states unambiguously that a user account is required to create a new entry. Registration is not an optional convenience: the live sign-up form requires a Display Name, Email address, and Password. After signing in, the maker must go to the account dashboard, use the “submit new software” button, and manage previous submissions from that dashboard.

The authenticated software form is not exposed to logged-out visitors. As a result, Alternative.me’s public pages do not verify any additional required product fields, attachment specifications, or a submission fee. The how-to page, sign-up page, Terms, and current public catalog display no submission plan or price, and the generic pricing language in the Terms does not establish that a software submission is either free or paid. KittyDir therefore records submission pricing as unknown, with no fee or currency value, rather than repeating an unsupported free claim.

Alternative.me describes its service as open to public opinion but heavily moderated. That supports a required moderation or inclusion-review flag, although the platform publishes no approval deadline or typical review time. Its general rules prohibit illegal, abusive, or offensive content and make users responsible for what they add. The Terms also allow the site to monitor, edit, or remove material; prohibit unlawful, libelous, abusive, obscene, false, or misleading submissions; bar impersonation and false email addresses; require respect for third-party intellectual-property and personal rights; and ban viruses or other malware.

Published software profiles do not provide a dofollow backlink in the current markup. On the SMBImg profile audited on August 4, 2026, the main “Visit Homepage” link pointed directly to https://smbimg.com/ with target="_blank" and rel="nofollow". The separate vendor pricing-page anchor was also marked rel="nofollow". Because the nofollow token appears on the primary outbound product link itself, KittyDir records no_dofollow rather than no_conditions, paid_plan_required, badge_required, or another conditional route. A listing can still send referral traffic and support product discovery, but it should not be presented as a followed SEO backlink.
