About Kiiwi Mechanical Sounds

Kiiwi layers real mechanical switch sounds under your Mac keyboard, audible only in your headphones. Perfect for shared spaces wanting mechanical feedback without room

Kiiwi lets you experience the satisfying mechanical keyboard sounds on your Mac system without the need to purchase a physical keyboard. The application plays genuine mechanical switch sounds on your current keyboard to create an audio experience which lets you hear each key press through your headphones while keeping the rest of the room silent.

Real Switch Sounds, Not Synthesized

Choose from 38 different mechanical switches, each one named and recorded from a real keyboard. Kiiwi offers every switch type which includes Cherry MX Reds and NovelKeys Cream for linear operation and Browns and Holy Pandas for tactile feedback and Blues and IBM Model M for their distinct clicking sound.

Spatial Audio By Key Position

Type the letter Q and the sound comes from the left. Hit P and it moves to the right. The keyboard layout determines how each key position affects the sound distribution which creates a broad sound stage instead of a centralized point of origin. The speaker output shows small differences which headphones produce perfect authenticity in their sound reproduction.

Near-Zero Latency Performance

Samples are decoded to memory at launch and trimmed to their attack point, eliminating any silence before the sound begins. A keystroke requires only one buffer schedule which produces zero disk reads and zero decoding operations and zero system delays. You can type at 120 words per minute and every keystroke still plays properly thanks to a pool of player nodes that handle overlapping sounds.

Row-Aware Recordings

The number row, top row, home row, and bottom row each have separate recordings because they sound different on a real mechanical board. Space, enter, and backspace get their own distinct samples too. The detailed work creates an experience which feels genuine instead of following a standard pattern.

Complete Privacy

Kiiwi listens for key events to trigger sounds but never reads what you type. A key event picks a sample and is discarded in the same instant. The system operates without analytics and telemetry functions and it prevents all unsolicited update notifications. The app only sends your licence key during activation to complete the activation process.

Who Is Kiiwi For?

This app is built for people who type for hours and share the room while doing it. Writers, developers, students, and anyone working on a laptop in an open-plan office, library, or shared flat can benefit. The keyboard produces mechanical sounds through your headphones while keeping the surrounding environment completely silent when you connect your headphones.

Designed To Stay Out Of The Way

Kiiwi lives entirely in your menu bar. The application operates without window management and Dock icon display except when users choose to enable it while maintaining zero CPU usage during keyboard inactivity. The system retains only the switch which you currently operate in its active memory. Press Shift-Command-K from anywhere to instantly silence it when you need to take a call or step into a meeting.
