About See Your Disk

See Your Disk maps your Mac's storage as interactive blocks, showing what takes space. Clean caches, logs, and developer leftovers safely in one click.

See Your Disk is a macOS disk visualization and cleaning tool that turns your storage into an interactive map. Every block represents a folder, and the bigger the block, the more space it occupies. Users can view block contents by clicking on blocks while double-clicking them opens Finder and users can access single files through successive block exploration.

A map instead of a list

Traditional storage analyzers show you lists and numbers. See Your Disk shows you the shape of your disk. You can immediately identify the exact location of your gigabytes which exist in Library and System Data and Applications and Documents and developer folders. The layout mirrors macOS Storage settings by separating macOS, System Data, apps, documents, and developer data into distinct sections, so the mystery gigabytes finally have a place.

One-click Auto clean for safe items

Auto clean removes only what apps rebuild on their own: per-app caches in your Library, logs, Xcode DerivedData and device support files, simulator caches, npm and similar package caches, and old downloaded update packages. The complete list becomes visible to you before you confirm your selection. Nothing is removed without your explicit approval.

Three safety levels

Every cleanable item is marked with a clear safety level:

  • Safe: Data apps recreate automatically, such as caches and logs

  • Review: Files you may want to keep, such as Hugging Face model caches that take time to re-download

  • Protected: System files and critical data that are never touched, such as the Docker disk image

Items selected for cleaning are striped on the map before you confirm, so you can see exactly what will be removed.

Built for developers

Developers often find that Xcode DerivedData, simulators, npm, Gradle, Cargo caches, Hugging Face models, and Docker images consume enormous amounts of space. The software automatically detects these storage areas and displays their total storage requirements. Users can delete their unnecessary files through a straightforward process which avoids navigating through concealed folders via Terminal commands.

Trash first, always

Anything not clearly safe goes to the Trash rather than being deleted permanently. Users can recover their deleted files through the Trash function if they decide to retrieve their deleted data. Safe items, which apps recreate on their own, do not need a restore option.

Private by design

Nothing leaves your Mac. The system operates without any user accounts or analytics tracking or advertising and there are no tracking components. The app reads file names and sizes locally and never uploads them. It works fully offline. Purchases on the App Store edition are handled entirely by Apple.

Open source and transparent

See Your Disk is open source under the MIT license. The cleaning rules live in a single readable file, Cleanup.swift, in the GitHub repository. There is no AI guessing what to delete, just a fixed list of known locations. Contributors have the option to create new regulations or they can report existing rules which they believe should be corrected.

How it works

  1. Allow access: Choose your Home folder once. You decide what the app can see.

  2. Scan: The map builds itself automatically. Play Tetris while a large disk is scanned.

  3. Clean: Press Auto clean for safe items, or select blocks yourself and confirm.

See Your Disk requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later and is available both on the Mac App Store and as a signed, notarized open-source build on GitHub.
