Markdown Viewer turns local and web Markdown files into a focused browser workspace in Chrome and Edge. It brings document navigation, notes, search, diagrams, appearance controls, and export tools together for developers, technical writers, and anyone working with Markdown documentation.

FILES AND WORKSPACE

Pick a folder and browse its documents from the sidebar without leaving the page. Save folder bookmarks, reopen recent documents, and automatically refresh the current file while editing it in your own editor. Search within the current document or across the selected folder. A command palette and customizable keyboard shortcuts make frequently used tools easy to reach.

NAVIGATION AND NOTES

A searchable, collapsible H1–H6 outline follows your reading position. Highlight text in four colors, underline passages, or attach comments. Filter annotations and jump from a note to its exact place in the document. Reopening a document restores your saved reading position.

DIAGRAMS AND MATH

Render Mermaid diagrams, Graphviz / DOT, KaTeX math, and interactive Vega-Lite charts. Optional PlantUML rendering is consent-based. Turn a document’s heading structure into a mind map and download it as SVG, PNG, or JPEG. Supported diagrams can be opened full screen and downloaded in supported source or image formats.

READING AND EXPORT

Read tables, task lists, footnotes, alerts, definition lists, front matter, and syntax-highlighted code. Choose light, dark, or system mode and adjust fonts, document width, spacing, and code wrapping. Document themes and background skins support different reading styles. Export a self-contained HTML file, Word document, or clean print/PDF, and turn a document into slides with keyboard navigation and autoplay.

AVAILABILITY AND PRICING

Markdown Viewer supports local files and raw web documents ending in .md, .markdown, or .mdx, with optional .txt rendering. Existing rendered repository and documentation pages retain their native view. The interface is available in 15 languages. Core features are free. Version 1.0.1 includes all Pro-labelled features through Launch Access, with no account or license key required and no automatic cutoff in this release. Local file viewing requires enabling Allow access to file URLs in the extension settings.
